What the hug looks like

The two of you start out facing the camera. Then you turn toward each other, break into big smiles and share a tight, warm hug before looking back at the lens, happy. The light is soft and golden, and the camera has a slight handheld sway, so it feels like a moment somebody caught on their phone rather than a staged scene.

Because the model builds the scene around both faces, the two photos never have to have been taken together. One can be from last week and the other from ten years ago; one can be shot in Lagos and the other in Toronto. The hug happens in a place neither of you was standing.

Choosing the two photos

  • One clear photo per person, face toward the camera, in decent light.
  • Similar framing helps. Two head-and-shoulders shots blend more naturally than a close-up next to a full-length photo.
  • Already have a photo of you both? Use one-photo mode instead of two uploads.
  • The hug needs two people. A solo photo won't work for this effect; try levitation or angel wings instead.

Relaxed faces help too. The clip ends with both of you looking back at the camera, happy, so photos where you already look at ease make that last frame feel natural. Old printed photos work if they are sharp: lay them flat in daylight and photograph them straight on, without glare.

Hugs people actually make

Most hug videos fall into a few groups, and each has its own small trick.

  • Long-distance friends and couples: post it on the day you would have been together, or on the countdown to the next visit.
  • Family across generations: a grandparent and a grandchild who live far apart. If the grandchild is under 18, a parent or guardian needs to say yes first.
  • Siblings and old friends: the reunion that keeps getting postponed, so at least the video exists.
  • Someone you miss: some people make one with a photo of a parent, grandparent or friend who has passed away. It can be a quiet comfort. Choose a photo that looks like them, watch it privately first, and talk with the people who loved them before you share it more widely. It is an imagined moment, not a memory, and it is kind to say so.

Giving a hug as a gift

A hug video makes a small, personal present: send the file on a birthday, an anniversary or at the end of a hard week. The clip is five seconds, vertical and silent, so you can add a song that means something to both of you before you send it.

If you would rather let someone make their own, you can share credits through one gift link. They sign in, claim their share and make a hug, a rap video or any other effect with their own photos.

AI hug generator: questions

Do the two photos need to be taken together?

No. Upload one photo of each person from any place or year, and the hug is generated with both of you in the same scene. A single photo of both people works too.

Can I make a hug with someone who has passed away?

Some people do, with a family photo that feels like the person. Treat it gently: watch it privately first and check in with family before posting. The video is a generated moment, not a recording.

Can I hug a celebrity?

No. Only use photos of people who agreed to be in the video, and don't use the tool to impersonate public figures.

Is there sound?

Photo effects are silent. The default is a 5-second clip, and you can choose another supported length. Add music in your own editor or use Rap duo mode for a performance with generated audio.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Choose Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p or 720p for a 5, 8, 10, 12 or 15-second video. A 12-second video uses 5 credits at 480p or 10 at 720p. A 5-second effect uses 3 credits at 480p or 5 at 720p. Other lengths use the displayed per-second rate, rounded up to a whole credit. One-time packs start at $9.99 for 10 credits; larger packs are $99 for 350, $199 for 900 and $499 for 3,000 credits. Generation time varies with the selected settings and provider demand. Check My videos for progress. When the task finishes, download the MP4 within 14 days.
